GENERAL INFORMATION

Rhodium plating jewelry is not part of the gold jewelry manufacturing process, it is rather a method of taking a finished piece of jewelry and changing its color.
All pieces that are to be plated must be fully buffed & cleaned, prior to plating. Rhodium plating will not cover up scratches and nicks in jewelry pieces.
The Rhodium plating area should be secluded from the rest of the manufacturing operation and should be kept clean at all times.
In order to successfully plate you must have:
  • Running Water
  • Steam
  • Electric Source

ELECTROCLEANING JEWELRY
The Electrocleaning solution should be contained in a stainless steel tank, which can act as the anode for the process.
Prepare the Electrocleaning solution by dissolving 1 scoop of Davis-K Electrocleaner #900 into each liter of water being prepared (ex: 3 liters of water needs 3 scoops of cleaning powder).
Heat solution to 150° - 200°F.
Connect red (positive) lead to tank.
Connect black (negative) lead to the rack on which jewelry is hanging.
Set rectifier to 5-6 volts and immerse jewelry for 20-60 seconds.
Remove from solution and rinse very well by immersing into a tank with clean running water.

RHODIUM TANK SETUP
The Rhodium plating bath should be setup up in a glass tank.
Platinized Titanium or Platinum Anodes should be used.

ACID BATH SETUP AND USE
The Acid bath should be set up in a plastic container with a cover.
ALWAYS add water first, then DAVIS-K DILUTE S.A. SOLUTION.
Add 1 fl. oz. S.A. SOLUTION to each liter of water.
After jewelry is rinsed from the electrocleaning bath, immerse into acid bath and agitate for 10-30 seconds.
Rinse under clean running water.
